It was such a romantic location, Jack had known she would not be able to resist coming. The picnic had all gone wonderfully at first. But then he mentioned his plan to migrate to America again, and she had gone crazy. He couldn't work out why she was so violently opposed to the idea, but every time he mentioned it she just yelled and screamed at him about how inconsiderate he was.
But this time, Jack had reacted. Badly. And it had been so simple. He just grabbed the silk scarf that she was wearing around her neck, and pulled until it tightened. She had been caught so completely by surprise, she had no time to do anything about it. In a few short seconds her throat was too constricted to allow any further air through, and then her heart simply stopped beating, and she was gone. Quiet.
Jack looked around him, but he was completely alone. There were no witnesses. He realised that if he could hide the body, he might get away with what had happened. He stood up and looked around again. At the bottom of the field they were in, he spotted an old wooden crate. He picked up Eva's body, and carried it to the crate. It was empty, and appeared to have been used to store grain or animal food at some point. It was a bit of a squash, but Jack managed to get Eva's body into the crate quite easily. He closed the lid, and hauled some heavy rocks on top to keep it shut, and keep wild animals out.
When the farmer returned to his storage crate the following spring, Eva's body was completely desiccated. And Jack was lying on a beach in California...
